Nintendo Prepares for Switch 2 Launch: Plans to Meet High Demand

Nintendo is getting ready for the release of its next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2, and is taking steps to ensure there are enough units available to meet demand. Company President Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that Nintendo is being proactive to prevent shortages when the console launches.

How Nintendo is Measuring Demand

Nintendo will assess interest in the Switch 2 based on upcoming events:

  • Nintendo Direct (April 2, 2025) – This presentation will provide the first detailed look at the Switch 2, generating excitement and gauging interest.
  • Hands-On Events (April 4, 2025, and beyond) – Players around the world will get a chance to try the console, helping Nintendo estimate demand before launch.

Increasing Production to Avoid Shortages

Furukawa explained that Nintendo is taking the risk of producing large quantities of the Switch 2 before launch. This is based on lessons learned from the original Nintendo Switch launch in 2017, where supply shortages frustrated many customers.

“We are taking the risk and proceeding with production to meet as large a demand as possible,” Furukawa stated. By preparing ahead of time, Nintendo hopes to avoid delays and keep up with demand.

Game Releases for Both Switch and Switch 2

Nintendo is also carefully planning its game lineup to ensure a smooth transition between the Switch and the Switch 2. Some highly anticipated games, including Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, will launch on both systems.

At the same time, Furukawa acknowledged the need for exclusive games to attract players to the new console. Nintendo will balance support for the 130+ million existing Switch users while ensuring the Switch 2 has fresh content that makes it a must-buy.

What’s Next for the Switch 2?

With these preparations in place, Nintendo is aiming for a strong launch with enough supply and exciting games. More details about the Switch 2, including price, release date, and full game lineup, are expected to be revealed soon.
